DEVELOPING STORY: 1 person killed, 2 injured in Orem shooting; suspect at large

(Orem, UT) — UPDATE: 6/2/21, 9:20 p.m.: I person is dead and 2 others are in critical condition after a shooting in Orem, Wednesday evening.

According to Sgt. Brian Luangsawasdi with the Orem Police Department, officers responded to a report of a possible shooting at a church near the Canal Trail near 165 E. and 1780 N. around 6:53 p.m.

Officers then received reports that there was a victim of a shooting located at 1274 North State Street.

Officers arrived on scene and found three people suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.

2 people were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Another person was pronounced dead on scene.

Police say the person who was pronounced dead in the shooting was a passenger in the vehicle.

Detectives are investigating two active scenes at this time.

Police believe the shooting occurred at 165 E. and 1780 N. in Orem and the victims drove to 1274 North State Street where they were later found by police.

The victim and suspect were believed to have known each other. According to Sgt. Luangsawasdi, the shooting is believed to have stemmed from a “drug deal gone bad.”

Investigators say they have identified a possible suspect, but they are not currently in custody. The suspect is believed to have been driving a white four-door passenger vehicle.

The identities of the victims and possible suspect have not yet been released.
